What's New

The rains have been sporadic and in my yard the plum is about to burst into flower while the daffodils have already started welcoming us to spring! Classes are full and while we had to cancel around 8 classes we remain comprehensive and committed to offering the broadest range of classes albeit they will be spread out over a longer time period. There are late start classes that are still open such as Natural Building LH-36, Special Projects in Lanht LH-207, and Soil Management for Bay Area Gardens LH-248NP. Urban Community Gardening is a free class and you can join anytime, LH-501. For more information see the Featured Courses section of the main page.

Fee-Based Classes: In addition to our credit courses we are proud to offer community service classes. These classes, which are known as fee-based classes, are offered primarily as one-day Saturday classes. A notable exception is our outstanding Floral Design program, which has classes ranging from four to twelve weeks in length. All fee-based classes are non-credit, repeatable courses. Enrollment at least ten days in advance is highly recommended. You will find a wide variety of classes offered each semester.

Yet to come this semester is Pruning Deciduous Trees/Shrubs on Feb. 20th. The Art of the Wisteria on Feb. 27th. Finding the Essence of a Tree on March 6th. Pruning Maples on May 1st. and The Art of the Lace-leaf Maple on May 8th. See our Fee-Based Schedule(PDF) to see all that Saturdays in spring have to offer!

We welcome you all once again to our spring PLANT FAIR which is being held on May 1st. We are happy, delighted and proud to have you join us in this celebration. No matter how many times we have hosted a plant fair every fair seems to be as hectic and exciting as our first. Please take a moment as you wander around to thank the staff and students who have spent countless hours trying to bring you the best we have to offer.

As the premier Horticulture program in Northern California (we think all of California) we offer a complete selection of horticulture classes taught by some of the finest horticulturists in the Bay Area.

Stay tuned for more updates as we are trying our best to keep you as informed as possible about events at the Landscape Horticulture Department.
