OUR PROGRAM

Merritt College is proud to be one of the first community colleges in the nation to offer a certificate in Permaculture Design. Our two-year program is able to provide its students with a firm understanding of sustainable design principles, while our 7.5 acre campus gives students the space to put those principles into practice.
Two semesters of Permaculture Design courses make up the core of the curriculum.
Courses meet once a week, and the half lecture and half practical format allows students ample time for hands-on experience in organic farming, natural building and water harvesting techniques.

PERMACULTURE CERTIFICATE

To complete the certificate students can choose from a wide array of courses offered by the Landscape Horticulture department to follow their particular interests in the field of sustainable design. While attending Merritt College students are able to simultaneously enroll at any of our sister colleges in the Peralta Colleges District, allowing you to take carpentry courses at Laney College in downtown Oakland, or learn about biodiesel at the College of Alameda.  Registration begins November 30th, so visit the Peralta Colleges website for more information on enrollment.

Saturday, March 13th, 2010   Beekeeping in the City The Glide Foundation will be hosting the first in a two part series on urban beekeeping.
